MEANING and UNDERSTANDING
If you ‘understand something in only one way, then you don’t really understand it.
Be wary of terms like ‘genuine understanding’ or ‘real meaning’ -because they are meaningless!
What any symbol means to you depends upon how you connected it to the other things you already knew.
A ‘meaning’ with only one single sense holds thinking confined to a single track. Then, if anything goes wrong, your mind gets stuck with nowhere to go. But well-connected meaning-nets let you turn ideas around in your mind so that you can see them in different views. Then, if one method doesn’t work, you can find others that help solve your problems…
… and that’s what we mean by thinking!
