On this page you can find information about the constraints on the
HMI
course programme, information on different course types, and
overviews
of the courses that can be followed in each quarter.
When selecting courses to follow, keep in mind the following general
requirements to be met by your study programme:
- At least 5 ECTS from each of the 3 main themes (Human
Computer Interaction, Natural Interaction and Artificial
Intelligence).
- At least 10 and at most 15 ECTS in Man, Media and Society (Human
Sciences) courses.
- Maximally 30 ECTS worth of basic (=introductory) courses, see
Course Types below.
Obligatory programme components:
- HMI-project (10 ECTS)
- The MMS course Computer Ethics (5 ECTS)
- Research Topics (10 ECTS)*
- Final Project (30 ECTS)
*For students who had their course programme approved before 1 March
2009, Research Topics is not required; however, this regulation has a
limited validity until 1 September, 2012.
Also keep in mind that following more than 15 ECTS worth of courses
per quarter is not a good idea; the workload will be too high. (1
ECTS
stands for 28 hours of studying.)
- Master course (Master): regular Master course.
- Basic course (basic): provides the introductory knowledge for
the
advanced courses in the same theme.
- Advanced course (adv.): a specialized course within a theme
(assumes introductory knowledge of the theme).
- Deficiency course (def.): provides required background knowledge
for all HMI students. Credits don't count for HMI.
- Courses for which both material and lectures are in English are
marked with an E.
- Courses for which the lectures are either in Dutch or English,
depending on the presence of non-Dutch speaking students, are marked
with E/NL. Course material will be in English.
- Courses for which the lectures are in Dutch are marked with NL.
In most cases, the course material is in English. If you do not
speak
Dutch, but you would still like to follow a course marked NL, we
suggest that you contact the teacher of the course to ask if this is
possible. If you want to follow a course listed E/NL, it may also be
wise to make the teacher aware of your presence.
