Peter R.J. Asveld studied chemical engineering and applied mathematics and did his Ph.D. in theoretical computer science at Twente University of Technology (nowadays: University of Twente). After a research position at the Mathematical Centre (nowadays: CWI) Amsterdam, and an assistant professorship at Delft University of Technology he returned to Twente.
His main research interests are formal languages (grammars, automata, mathematical properties of languages), complexity (complexity of computation and descriptional complexity), and discrete mathematics.
