Project Name: Pop-Eye: Development of a multilingual continuous video disclosing tool, subtitle-based indexing and partial translation

Abbreviation: POP-EYE

Start date: January 1, 1997

End date: January 1, 1998

Project Description:

The Pop-Eye project has build a demonstrator of a multilingual film and video indexing system. Pop-Eye uses natural language processing to index and partially translate text captions that were used to subtitle audio-visual programmes. These multilingual indexes can then be used within broadcasting companies, across the internet, or via an intranet, to help producers to locate and retrieve video fragments to use in new television productions.
