Beschrijving: Auditory steady-state response (ASSR) is a brain reaction to modulated tones. It has been used extensively in audiometry. ASSR amplitude varies with respect to attention level so it may be used in concentration-based brain-computer interface (BCI) games. But first, parameters for ASSR stimulation should be evaluated with respect to user comfort and detection accuracy. ASSR stimulation parameters include stimulation device (headphone, speaker, etc.), stimulus sensitivity (volume), stimulus type (clicks, tone bursts, etc.) and stimulus frequency.
The topic can be arranged as a single assignment or split in two assignments. Then the first assignment would be “evaluation of ASSR parameters with respect to user comfort” and the second assignment would be “evaluation of ASSR parameters with respect to detection accuracy”. The common steps for both assignments are: preparing different combinations of ASSR stimuli, preparing a stimulation platform, and conducting experiments on people using brain activity measurement devices (Biosemi ActiveTwo or Emotiv EPOC). Then, for first assignment, assessing user comfort and for second assignment, evaluating detection accuracy per stimulus parameter. Real-time data processing is not necessary. |
