Controlling a dancing humanoid robot

Kunst- en Techniekwerk (Making Art Work) in Enschede is currently developing a dancing humanoid robot (animatronics project) for a Dutch media artist. A first version of this robot will be delivered next month (February 2012). A second version is currently under construction. Goal of this assignment is to control the second version of this system using the Microsoft Kinect sensor bar, in order to try to create sensible, logic (or even meaningful) interaction in dance motion between human and robot.

The robot hardware can be controlled from a PC system in numerous ways (MIDI, serial bus, DMX), simple control examples in Java (Processing) are available. Goal of this project is to setup a suitable software environment, choice of development environment for the Kinect, design the software layout, experiment with interaction, evaluate the possibilities and developed behavior.
