Traditional input methods, like the point-and-click paradigm, appear to have limits when using (very) large screens. Transparent and non-invasive input methods like a gestures, body pose and gaze by means of optical tracking seem appealing to replace the tradiditional paradigmas, but how could that be used? This research will focus on the design of a suitable replacement of the keyboard and mouse for all/common/selected tasks.
This design will be evaluated using simple example applications such as a web browser or google earth(?) application. Because it is assumed that non-invasand motion capture isive tracking techniques will become available, techniques like CyberGloves and Flock of Birds are deployed to capture hand motion.

The task of parsing is one of the oldest tasks in the field of computational linguistics, facing two major fundamental problems: attachment disambiguation and grammar construction. The former problem commonly manifests itself as the “PP attachment disambiguation problem”, where the decision whether the prepositional phrase attaches to the verb or noun is ambiguous. The latter problem can be solved by inducing grammar from a corpus, “grammar induction”. While the literature is rich on both subjects, this paper gives an survey on the literature on both tasks.

A state of the art statistical machine translation model is trained, using phrase-based translation and factored models and the Europarl-corpus. This model is used to translate an English text into Dutch, in order to run a qualitative evaluation on it. This evaluation attempts to capture the information preservation during machine translation. |
